Cool Earth Basic Income pilot

The Bath UBI Beacon is collaborating with the climate-justice NGO Cool Earth and the National Organisation of Indigenous Women from the Peruvian Andes and Amazon (ONAMIAP) on the evaluation of the world’s first pilot of a conservation basic income. The pilot provided unconditional cash transfers to all adult members of three indigenous communities in Peru over a two-year period, alongside workshops on financial management, Indigenous rights, governance, environmental conservation and climate resilience. The mixed-methods evaluation is examining changes across multiple areas, including income generation and livelihoods, education, food security and nutrition, health and wellbeing, household and community relationships and environmental stewardship.
